Restaurant Le Chalet

This painting was given on January 18, 2020 to MAMAN... as a keepsake for nearly her 60 years at the helm of one of the oldest restaurants in Saint-Hyacinthe.

MAMAN is the affectionate nickname given to the woman who still runs this resto today, bought by her parents in 1966 and moved to its current location on June 18, 1969, more than 50 years ago. The owner’s grandmother was Mrs. Irène Bourque Darsigny-Viens, who was a cook at the Grand Hôtel de Saint-Hyacinthe in 1930. It is Mr. Luc’s mother, aged 85, who still does the cooking there.

It is renowned for its egg and apple pies, its meat pies, tourtières and its meatball stew for the holiday season. English-speaking customers travel from Saint-Constant to come and enjoy them. The customers are regulars, their coffee is even served to them in their personal mug, often suited to their trade or profession. The food there is home cooking and EVERYTHING is GOOD...
