Honoré Mercier (1840-1894) was an editor at the Courrier de Saint-Hyacinthe from July 1862 to May 1864 and a member of its editorial committee from February to May 1866.

He studied law under Me. Maurice Laframboise and was admitted to the Barreau du Bas-Canada in 1865.

He practised his profession as a lawyer in Saint-Hyacinthe from 1865 to 1881 and was a Liberal member for Saint-Hyacinthe for several years starting in 1870, and was elected Premier of Québec from January 1887 to December 1891.

He died in 1894, father of Honoré Mercier (son) and grandfather of Honoré Mercier (grandson)...

Maître Laframboise was the second mayor of Saint-Hyacinthe after his brother-in-law Louis -Antoine Dessaulles who was the first.

Me. Laframboise had married Marie-Eugénie-Rosalie Dessaulles, daughter of Marie-Rosalie Papineau who was the sister of the Patriote Louis-Joseph Papineau.
