YVES MORIER... A judge who paints...!!!

Born in Saint-Hyacinthe on 6 October 1945

Law degree from Université Laval in 1969

Lawyer in private practice in all matters — civil, criminal, matrimonial and commercial — from 1970 to 1978, in the La Survivance building, 1555 rue Girouard, Saint-Hyacinthe.

Criminal prosecutor for the Ministry of Justice as Crown Attorney from June 1978 to August 1983.

Chief Crown Attorney for the Montérégie from 1983 to 1993, in Longueuil.

Co-author of a book on socio-judicial intervention in domestic violence, published in 1991 by Éditions Wilson & Lafleur.

Judge of the Court of Québec, civil and criminal divisions, from February 1993 to May 2011.

Retired since May 2011, he sat as a supernumerary judge in criminal matters at the Court of Québec until October 2020 (27 years on the bench), 50 years in the legal world.

A self-taught painter since 1980, he devotes part of his free time to seeking serenity by setting forms and colours side by side as his art develops.

Since 2000, as a volunteer with the Fondation Aline-Letendre, he has taken part in creating, developing and funding the rose garden of the Jardins Claudette-Bernier (including 450 hybrid tea roses) for the benefit of patients at the Hôtel-Dieu, a long-term care home in Saint-Hyacinthe.

On 8 March 2010 he opened a virtual art gallery on the website ymorier.com, where he presents 300 of his pictures made since 1980, each with a historical note.
